It is exciting to hear that that the refurbished (after completing electrification and gauge conversion) Vellore cantonment railway station is going to be opened next month according to the Minister of State for Railways Mr. Velu. This should open a new era by bringing new trains to Vellore.
One train that I would like to see come to Vellore Cantonment is Venkatadri Express that runs between Chitoor and Kacheguda (Hyderabad). It arrives at Chitoor at 8:55 AM and leaves to Kacheguda at 5:30 PM. The train journey between Chitoor and Vellore is not more than two hours so there is no loss of time for this train between the existing stations.
Reasoning behind asking for this train is this: Vellore has Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) and The Golden Temple. CMC attracts large number of patient population from the northeast parts of India while majority of the students at VIT are of Andhra Pradesh origin.
By extending this train to Vellore, Indian Railways not only provide the conveyance to the VIT students and the devotees of Golden Temple from the Deccans but it also brings in newer people to CMC for treatment. Venkatadri Express connects important places such as district headquarters (Cuddapa, Kurnool and Mahaboobnagar in Andhra Pradesh) and pilgrimage center (Tirupathy).
Extending this train will bring in positive economic impact to Vellore and it brings in no changes to the existing train schedule nor an inconvenience to any group of people, it must be planned to be done.
