A divided road with a four feet high median wall that represents hustle and bustle of Vellore during the day extends from Sepoy Mutiny statue on the north side and to the Vhooreese college campus on the south side.
West side of the road lies the famous Vellore Fort and on the eastern side lies the old bus stand, many shops, places of worship, and the street vendors. During the peak hours (between 8 AM to 10 AM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM) this road is absolutely chaotic.
Unlike many cities, Vellore has large number of bullock carts that we have to share the road with. Normally they are heavily loaded, wide and slow. Adding this combination of mode of transportation to the already congested road that is filled to the breakneck capacity (with buses, auto-rickshaws, four and two wheelers, bicyclists, and pedestrians etc) makes it impossible to drive, but life goes on.
These images were not taken at the peak hours so they don't reflect what this article talks about.

The median wall with a provision for live plants to grow is probably built to prevent people from crossing the road from one side to the other indiscriminately but unfortunately this has not deterred people from jumping the wall. Those that have heavy loads on their heads, use the median to rest on the wall before they cross (I mean jump) it. This has pretty much wiped out all the plants.
With increasing traffic that is choosing the city route to reach the Golden temple, traffic on this road is only going to get worse unless and until the alternatives (such as flyovers) are explored immediately.
