New direct train for Bengali patients coming to CMC from West Bengal

In the last Railway budget, Railway Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee had announced a new train service called “Aurobindo Express” between Howrah Junction and Pondichery (Puduchery) via Katpadi junction and Vellore Cantonment. This will come as a huge relief to many patients that are coming to Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore for treatment.

Actually this train is planned to service between Howrah Junction and Pondichery via Katpadi junction and Vellore Cantonment stations but since the railway track between Vellore Cantonment and Villupuram is not declared safe for the passenger train traffic, this train is routed differently. Once it reaches Katpadi (via Renigunta and Tirupati), it will be a non-stop service up to Villupuram via Arakkonam and Chengalpet.

But once the track is declared open (inspection is completed and few concerns of the safety officer needs to be addressed before it gets the clearance), then the train will service like originally planned (Katpadi, Vellore Cantonment, Villupuram and Pondychery).

On the modified route, the distance will be 1973 KM but once it services as planned via Vellore Cantonment, the distance is expected to be decreased by about 70 KM. I hope that this train is scheduled to stop at Vellore town station (comes just before Vellore Cantonment Station) which would be very convenient for the patients as it is very near to CMC.
