New amenities at Katpadi railway station

Katpadi railway junction is one of the major junctions in India connecting to four different directions (Bangalore & Trivandrum, Pondicherry, Mumbai and Chennai), having more than 75 stopping trains connecting all four major metro cities in India.      

In the last one year, Katpadi railway junction has added very nice amenities and this blogpost is to detail about those facilities.

Free Wi-Fi:

Katpadi Junction has become the beneficiary of Google offered free Wi-Fi for any passenger with a smart phone for a half an hour.  This facility is available at many major railway stations in India. 

Escalators:  

Katpadi railway station platforms are in Noth-South directions with south platform being the first platform and the rest being on the north of the railway tracks.  In the first platform they have added an escalator and the construction work is going on for the escalator to be added on the second platform.

Lift/ Elevator:

There are many travelers who do not know to use escalators and they struggle to get on and get off.  Railways was so thoughtful that they have installed a lift/ elevator on the first platform and the construction work is underway to have the lift/ elevator installed on the second platform as well. 

CMC help desk:

Christian Medical College (CMC) and railways have an understanding to set up a help desk and it has been in existence for the past couple of years but now it has become a well established help desk with 24 X 7 nurse to assist the travelling passengers.  It is located on the first platform.

Pre-paid transport services:

Because many people come from far away distances who doesn't speak the local language, railways has set up a prepaid services to protect the commuters from being exploited.  It is located in the Katpadi railway junction parking lot.  

Golf Cart:

Many that travel to and from Katpadi railway junction are the patients of CMC.  Some find it very difficult to walk and CMC has donated a golf cart for such patients to use.  This is a service that CMC has generously gave to the railway station apart from the wheel chairs and repair services for maintaining them every three months.
